Le Mans Ultimate HUD overlay: turn on plugins and go

Set up a live telemetry HUD for Le Mans Ultimate: turn on Enable Plugins in the game, restart once, pick the game in Horizon Labs, and fix the common snags.

Le Mans Ultimate needs one switch before a HUD can read it: Settings → Gameplay → Enable Plugins. Turn it on, restart the game once, select Le Mans Ultimate in Horizon Labs and start a session. There is no plugin file to download, and no IP or port to enter.

Steps

  1. Open Le Mans Ultimate and go to Settings → Gameplay.
  2. Turn on Enable Plugins. This is the switch that makes the game publish its telemetry in shared memory.
  3. Restart the game once. The change does not apply to a session that is already running.
  4. Start Horizon Labs, open the Connection section of the settings and choose Le Mans Ultimate under Game. The IP and port fields are greyed out because shared memory has neither.
  5. Load into a session. The HUD goes live on track.

Horizon Labs reads Le Mans Ultimate’s own built-in shared memory (a block named LMU_Data). You do not install the community plugin that rFactor 2 needs. If you also play rFactor 2, that game does need its plugin: see the rFactor page.

Show it on screen

For an on-screen overlay, run the game in borderless windowed mode. Exclusive fullscreen can hide or clip an overlay. In Le Mans Ultimate this is the Window Mode option in the graphics settings.

For streaming, set Display mode in the Overlay settings to OBS (browser source) or Both, and add a browser source in OBS with http://127.0.0.1:8088/overlay/index.html. The OBS source does not depend on the game’s window mode. The full steps are in Add a live telemetry HUD to OBS.

What the HUD gets from Le Mans Ultimate

Engine
Speed (km/h and mph), RPM, rev limit, gear
Inputs
Throttle, brake, clutch, steering
Race
Lap number, current lap, last lap, best lap, position, fuel, pit limiter
Dynamics
Longitudinal, lateral and vertical g-force, heading, drift angle, tyre temperatures for all four tyres
Car
Car name

Pitch, roll and suspension travel are not in the list Horizon Labs reads for this game, so widgets bound to them stay idle. The complete per-game list is on the Le Mans Ultimate page.

Want a different look? Open the Designer, pick a template, and bind its layers to the fields above. Fields the game does not send are flagged while you edit.

Check that data is arriving

In the Connection section, the Live status block shows the time of the last packet and a packet count, and Diagnostics lists the telemetry state. Drive a few metres: if the numbers move, Horizon Labs is reading the game and any remaining problem is in the overlay or the OBS source. If they do not move, go back to the Enable Plugins switch.

Choosing what to show

Le Mans Ultimate is an endurance game, so a HUD tends to be about long stints rather than single laps. The fields above cover the basics well: fuel level, the four tyre temperatures, pit limiter state, last and best lap, and position. A small layout with gear, speed, a shift indicator, pedals and fuel leaves the screen free for the track. The same HUD can be shown on screen and, through the browser source, on stream.

Troubleshooting

Some community guides edit a file in the game’s UserData\player folder instead of using the menu, for example to turn on a specific third-party plugin. Horizon Labs needs only the in-game Enable Plugins switch.
