Gran Turismo 7 and GT Sport telemetry on a Windows PC

Get Gran Turismo 7 or GT Sport telemetry on a Windows PC: enter the PlayStation’s IP in Horizon Labs, ports 33740 and 33340, OBS workflow and fixes.

Gran Turismo 7 and Gran Turismo Sport stream telemetry from the PlayStation over your local network. To read it on a Windows PC, find the console’s IP address, select the game in Horizon Labs, enter that address as the connection IP, and start driving. The listening port is 33740 for Gran Turismo 7 and 33340 for Gran Turismo Sport. Nothing needs to be switched on in the game.

Steps

  1. Find the console’s IP address. On the PlayStation, go to Settings → Network → View Connection Status and note the IP address.
  2. Open Horizon Labs on your PC and go to the Connection section of the settings.
  3. Choose the game under Game: Gran Turismo 7 or Gran Turismo Sport. The port field fills with 33740 or 33340.
  4. Enter the PlayStation’s address in the host field (labelled “UDP host”, and called Connection IP in the on-screen hint), replacing 127.0.0.1. The default points at the PC itself, which is not where the stream comes from, so Horizon Labs refuses it for these games and Diagnostics says to set the PlayStation address.
  5. Start Gran Turismo on the console and drive. The HUD goes live once you are on track.

The PC and the console must be on the same network. Both games are covered on the Gran Turismo page.

How the stream works

The console only sends data to a device that asks for it. Horizon Labs sends a one-byte request to the PlayStation about every five seconds (port 33739 for Gran Turismo 7, 33339 for Gran Turismo Sport) and listens for the replies on the ports above. The packets are encrypted by the game, and Horizon Labs decrypts them locally.

This data stream is not officially documented by Sony or Polyphony Digital. Horizon Labs reads it with the community’s published decoders as a reference, and a game update could change it. Gran Turismo 7 is a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 title; Gran Turismo Sport is PlayStation 4.

What the stream contains

The stream has car and lap basics. It does not have everything a PC sim sends.

Engine
Speed (km/h and mph), RPM, rev limit, gear, boost
Inputs
Throttle, brake, clutch, handbrake, steering (Gran Turismo 7 only)
Race
Lap number, last lap, best lap, fuel
Dynamics
Tyre temperatures for all four tyres

Not available: g-forces, a live race position, the current lap time, and oil or water temperatures. Widgets bound to those fields stay idle. Gran Turismo Sport has no steering field either, because its packet is smaller. Check the field lists on the game page before you design around a field.

PlayStation to OBS: the capture-card workflow

A console cannot run Horizon Labs, so the HUD lives on the PC. The usual stream setup has two separate parts:

  1. Video: the console’s HDMI output goes into a capture card (or your capture device), and OBS shows it as a video capture source.
  2. HUD: Horizon Labs runs on the same PC, with Display mode set to OBS (browser source). Add a browser source with http://127.0.0.1:8088/overlay/index.html above the capture, at your canvas size.

The on-screen overlay cannot sit on a console picture, so use OBS mode, or open the overlay on a second monitor. If OBS runs on another PC, turn on LAN mode and see HUD on a second PC. The general OBS steps are in Add a live telemetry HUD to OBS.

The HUD follows the telemetry as it arrives, while a capture card adds its own delay to the video, so the HUD can look slightly ahead of the picture.
