DiRT Rally 2.0 overlay for OBS: switch on UDP and add the browser source

Show a live HUD over DiRT Rally 2.0 on stream: switch UDP on in hardware_settings_config.xml, then add the Horizon Labs overlay to OBS as a browser source.

DiRT Rally 2.0 sends no telemetry until you switch it on. Close the game, open hardware_settings_config.xml in the game’s folder under Documents\My Games, set <udp enabled="true" extradata="3" port="20777" />, and start the game again. Then add http://127.0.0.1:8088/overlay/index.html to OBS as a browser source and Horizon Labs shows the HUD on top of your capture.

Step 1: switch UDP on

  1. Close DiRT Rally 2.0. The game reads this setting when it launches.
  2. Open the file. It is hardware_settings_config.xml, in the game’s folder under Documents\My Games. If you cannot find it, start the game once and close it: the game creates it on its first run.
  3. Find the udp line and set it to <udp enabled="true" extradata="3" port="20777" />. Keep a copy of the original file before you edit.
  4. Save, then start the game. There is nothing else to enable in the game.

extradata="3" is the extended data mode, and it is the one Horizon Labs reads. It adds fuel, sector, pit status and brake temperatures to the basic stream. The port, 20777, is also Horizon Labs’ default for the DiRT games, so the two sides match without further settings.

Step 2: add the overlay to OBS

  1. Start Horizon Labs, select DiRT Rally 2.0, and drive a stage. Live status should show data coming in.
  2. In OBS, add a browser source above your game capture.
  3. Set the URL to http://127.0.0.1:8088/overlay/index.html (the port can be changed in Horizon Labs settings) and the size to your canvas, for example 1920×1080.

The same steps work in Streamlabs, Meld Studio and TikTok LIVE Studio: see HUD in OBS and streaming apps. If you stream from a second PC, LAN mode shows the HUD there.

What a rally HUD can show

Horizon Labs gets these fields from DiRT Rally 2.0. Rally has no tyre-temperature or slip data in this stream, but it has plenty to build a clean rally HUD:

A short viewer-friendly layout is speed and gear at the bottom centre, an RPM arc, pedal bars on one side, and the four suspension bars on the other. In the Designer you bind each layer to its field and send the result to the overlay. The DiRT game page lists the fields per game.

Troubleshooting

Nothing shows in OBS
Open the overlay address in a normal browser first. If it works there, the problem is the source size or its order in OBS. If it is empty there too, Horizon Labs is not receiving data: go to the next line.
Horizon Labs shows no data
Check that the udp line still reads enabled="true". A game repair, a settings reset or a restore can put the original file back. Edit it again with the game closed.
The port does not match
The game and Horizon Labs must use the same port. The file uses 20777 and so does Horizon Labs by default. If you changed one side, change the other. Some guides for other tools use different ports, so ignore them for this setup.
Another tool already uses the port
A telemetry tool, a dashboard or a motion app can hold port 20777. Close it, or point the game at a different port and match it in Horizon Labs.
The overlay is hidden in the game window
For the in-game overlay, run the game in borderless windowed mode. The OBS route does not need that, since OBS draws the browser source over the capture.

Good to know

This is the UDP route described in How game telemetry works. Horizon Labs only reads the telemetry the game sends out, and the same switch covers DiRT 4 and DiRT Rally. Each game’s own terms still apply.

Sources: Turn on UDP ports for telemetry (Steam Community guide), and DiRT Series (MOZA support), which says to start the game first if the file is missing. Checked 2 November 2026.
